Kinda like Panerai Bread had some stores had a "pay what you think you should" stores. It failed horribly.
I find it amusing that Chipotle restaurant has, or at least used to have, Marxist and Socialist slogans printed on their carry out bags. Such as "From each according to their ability to each according to their needs." But is one of the more expensive "fast food" places to eat.

Good points; you're like the only rep. I still listen to. Some of them are pretty unhinged as of late.

I have to wonder why he ever thought this would work and why it took a year for him to figure this out. Gotta love the entire concept of equity as a formula for failure.

It's very basic, but differential pay is absolutely essential for signaling what society needs so that people have incentives to do the more difficult jobs. When waiters make $20,000 a year and doctors make $200,000 a year you clearly need more doctors than you currently have and less waiters.

If everyone is paid literally the same, what is the incentive to take on a more difficult challenge? It's true some people will do it for the sake of the work itself but that's not most of us. Would you go to your job just for fun? Some people would but not me and not 98% of people.

Socialism does sound great to losers and/or rich/powerful virtue signalers who will avoid suffering like a peasant. So you have to put it into the perspective of who is espousing it.

Spill realized what economists and business people have known for over a century… Meritocracy helps workers, since it assumes that the workers own their own labor, and are paid for the output of that labor…

But Marxists are always economic illiterates who think they know how to fix economies…

When I was working in the North Dakota Oilfields making $10k a month, in – 30 F weather, and I didn't see any women fighting over a chance to come play in the snow with me ~ Why would a typical office clerical worker make the same as someone working in dangerous and extreme conditions??!?! Ridiculous….

This is something I found elsewhere, and I don't remember where….

Socialism In The Classroom

An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student, but had once failed an entire class.

The class (students) insisted that socialism worked since no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism." "All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A," said the professor.

After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who had studied hard were upset while the students who had studied very little were happy.

But, as the second test rolled around, the students who had studied little studied even less and the ones who had studied hard decided that since they couldn't make an A, they also studied less.

The second Test average was a D. No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around the average grade was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling, all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else. To their great surprise they all failed.

The professor told them that socialism, too, would ultimately fail because of the same basic human principles of incentive.

The harder people try to succeed the greater their reward (capitalism), but when a government takes all the reward away (socialism) no one will try or succeed.

Something to let all your lefty socialist friends read

All the socialists say that humans are social creatures and therefore socialism is a no brainer. What they fail to understand is that humans are first and foremost INDIVIDUALS who group in social settings for mutual benefits. However once it stops being of mutual benefit, then we revert to individuality.
Me first,
My family second
My friends third
The community forth
Everyone else last

The flaw in your argument is that the experiment was conducted within the bounds of the market, so of course the experiment would fail. You would have to conduct the experiment independent of the market. That's how experiments work: They have to be independent. You can't conduct a zero gravity experiment within the bounds of gravity. That experiment will fail every time.

Most People want to live in LaLaLand, To be honest even I do, but the thing is Reality is not that, even in small units people put different amount of efforts in a work place/home/relationships and all to expect everyone to get the same treatment is wrong, all countries that took up "Capitalisms" to even a minimum prospered so quick, for a reason when people get free stuff people tend to become lazy that is just a fact! to bring people out of poverty is not gonna take them out of it by giving free stuff, Hence they do not know how to manage it. even things we manage differs from person to person, from race to race, from skill to skill as well. that is why "Capitalism" works and "Communism" did not in the long run, Capitalism Brings Competition and lower prices, Communism does that have that advantage they state the prices like what the govt intends so no free market.

Price's Law, which has been demonstrated with reasonable accuracy, states that the square root of a population, in this case employees of a company, is responsible for approximately 50% of the work load/productivity. If you have 100 employees, a group of ten is doing 50% of the work. The remaining 90 people are doing the other 50% amongst them. Taken further, of those 10 people 3 of them are doing about 50% of that work, and of those 3 people one is doing nearly half and the other two 25% and 25% respectively. Incentiving works and will at least help to manage this phenomenon of human behavior/nature. A uniform salary will accomplish nothing but disincentive and turmoil.

I think you fundamentally misunderstand the "in theory" argument. Said argument assumes that everyone actually is doing their fair share of work and that the society is functioning as intended… which is why it all falls apart when logic is applied. Furthermore, it really DOES sound amazing to live in a society where all work is equal and everyone has everything they need. No unemployment, no starvation, no homelessness, and equal amounts of freedom for all to explore their passions in their spare time.

I don't know why that doesn't sound nice to you.

There's no shame in occasionally indulging in such a fantasy, as long as one doesn't mistake it for a believable reality. Even Plato made up his own dream city with philosophers as the rulers. It's all in good fun until some idiot comes along and gets it in their head that such a thing could truly be.
