What Hawley and the other Repugnants don't get is that the counting of the electoral college votes is not the place to voice the "concerns of his constituents". They had weeks and weeks to do that before and failed. The only purpose of the joint session is to count the votes ceremoniously and make sure the electors were chosen legally (which they were and no repub could dispute that), NOT get on a soapbox and spew lies about voter fraud and pretend they cared about their constituents "concerns"; 60+ failed lawsuits already addressed that.

As a Missouri constituent, I am appalled and offended at the "for my constituents" defense. Hawley did that to impress Trump's base. We need him removed and charged.

Erin, you are one of my favorite reporters. You've got this wrong, here. Politics has pulled the press into thinking about it and its involvement with itself. First of all, politics is there to be involved with and to answer to the people and ITS problems not to distract the people to be interested in the problems of politicians and politics. Secondly, the press is not there to make a soap-box story out of the unending soap-opera that's been happening in Washington D.C. since Nixon. Or on reporting to the citizenry on what you believe the citizenry thinks (about politicians) and how many (with "polls" and such). What is happening out there and what are the problems? Politicians must be listening and not entertaining. The press must be investigating and reporting and not become a parrot and an arm of the propaganda of distraction.

Portland protests are worth IMO much more air-time than the demonstrations (the current ones) and posturings in the government halls. Report on them simply and leave them. Leave opining about these things to us – or at least designate this to only a small part of the news. How is the climate changing? How is the situation at the border(s) changing? How are the country's police-forces changing? How is the distribution of wealth changing. Reporting on the politics of the politics of politics is trying to convince us that nothing is changing. This is fake. I hope you understand, correctly, that you are quickly becoming a part of the problem.
