This Week Proves The Culture Wars Are Raging, from “chest-feeding” to Scottish hate speech in homes
Peter Whittle, founder & director of The New Culture Forum speaks about the latest threats to British culture.
“We’ve been hearing from the Left recently that the culture war is some strange concoction of the political right; that it is pure invention.
“This is rubbish, of course. We are living in the middle of it. And if you still want to know what a culture war looks like, consider just this past week.
“Already this week we have seen:
1) Attempts to reclassify breast-feeding as ‘chest-feeding’
2) Historic England listing and categorising villages and towns around the country in terms of their connection to ‘bad’ history
3) Churchill College Cambridge hosting a conference discussing Churchill as a racist imperialist no better than the Nazis.
4). Churchill and JK Rowling being dropped as school house names
5). Scots MPs supporting hate speech criminalisation in the home
6). Threats to boycott advertisers on the forthcoming GB news Channel, before it has even aired.
7). And the announcement of who will be on Sadiq Khan’s new Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm, which will be deciding which historical legacies should and should not be celebrated.
“This last one has particular pertinence for me. As a London Assembly Member I have opposed this new Orwellian body every step of the way.
“At one point Labour members tried to get me ejected from the Chamber for suggesting their party had a problem with Britain and patriotism.
“But the people who make up this new, unelected commission more than prove my point. 15 political Activists and a Star Wars actor; these are the people who will be sitting in judgement on our history.
Because that is the point: our history. The memorials, statues and street names of the capital carry with them a much greater significance. They belong to the country, not just London. And these people have no right to decide on our behalf what should happen to them.
“I will continue to challenge Sadiq Khan and his plans for London’s heritage. I will continue to oppose the expenditure of £250,000 of taxpayers money being used to fund this anti-British, maoist commission.
“We must all of us make our voices heard. We must pressure the prime minister into taking more of a stand on this and all of the attacks on our history and heritage. And if you are in London and can vote, this May vote this destructive Mayor out. ”
