Clapham Vigil v BLM Protests: Peter Whittle tackles Met Police Dep Commiss’ner on selective policing
In his final appearance on the London Assembly’s Police & Crime Committee, Peter Whittle tackles the Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police over police handling of recent protests and vigils.
He argues that for many Londoners the police are facing the worst crisis in living memory. People compare the police’s heavy handling of the Clapham Common vigil and the lockdown protests with their light-touch treatment of Black Lives Matter protestors and see selective policing in action.
People see different groups treated differently and this leads to increasing lack of confidence in the police.
