I don't think that the xbone flopped due to the lack of games primarely. What I think is that the anti-consumer practice from the begining of the generation left an sour taste in most people's mouth. And it didn't help that the console itself was underpowered.

The name of the console itself should have been a red-flag. It's xbox one because they expected the console to be an entrertainment unit, as in the only one you will need.

The whole mindset was wrong and that led the xbox to the worst possible path.

The xbox series consoles came out better. They are focused on games, with a good architecture and more powerful than the PS5(on paper and on practice in a few games like hitman 3 and dirt 5 post patch) , so the logical conclusion is that this generation will be way better than the last.

I don't think it will be long before the studios start pumping out an insane ammount of quality games, because it's not like they were sitting on their hands before Microsoft bought them.

They still haven’t shown to be able to make compelling 1st party games. No gameplay for Fable or Perfect Dark is kind of like they have nothing to show. Halo looked bad. Medium was medium. Dead rising was meh, crackdown was meh.

Maybe it’s just me but I find this kinda misleading/deceptive analysis. Sure they made that extra 15 billion but who’s to say that would all go just to gaming division. have to image a lot if it goes to research or other areas of there business especially if those areas make more money or the see better growth potential

How Microsoft could gain a lot of ground this gen.. It's easy to say something silly like Buy EA! or Buy Activision! but I look at it from a much smaller scope. There is no incentive for those 2 companies to sell.

1. All these amazing PC exclusives over the last decade or so that play on Windows.. port them to the Xbox direct to GamePass. There are so many great PC games that Console gamers have no idea about and GamePass could bring new life back to them and increase the value of the platform.

2. Push indie titles like crazy. Sign a dev like SuperGiantGames asap. Sign the top indie minds like Lucas Pope and give them free reign. Right now, Indie devs go to Switch first and then PS4.. and finally to Xbox. Making GamePass library a priority, indie devs need the most incentive to go to Xbox first. Switch and PS4 are basically getting exclusives just due to their popularity. Undertale still isn't on Xbox consoles. That shouldn't happen. Silksong should be a timed exclusive for Xbox. Disco Elysium should be going to xbox 1st. They need to spend a lot of $$, like the Epic Store did, to get these games 1st.

3. The Japanese are brand loyal to Nintendo & Sony. Gotta break this up by going after FromSoft, SquareEnix, Atlus, Sega, or Capcom. A huge splash would be if they signed Konami and planned to revitalize their big titles. Kojima feels some obligation towards Sony, but his work should not be exclusive unless he's getting paid for it.

4. Continue to go back and purchase classics that were once Sony exclusives (Yakuza, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, etc) and bring them over straight to GamePass. I would recommend the Persona series to start. Filling out that library is a huge deal. Exclusives aren't going to happen overnight.. padding the gamepass library with classics that have never been on Microsoft could.

5. Get Remedy back. Get the rights to Max Payne back from Take2. Scoop up all of the amazing talent that bailed from classic studios over the last few years (Ken Levine, Amy Hennig & the 70% of naughty dog employees that quit, etc).. and find a way to make them happy.

6. Continue to build up those AA type of game studios. They would never be huge sellers on their own, but could really become hits on GamePass and cult classics, which could then lead to an increase in value for potential sequels. I would say SuperGiantGames probably falls into this category at this point. The team who just made Disco Elysium looks like they really filled a niche for adult oriented RPG which would be a great addition.

-Whatever they do they should always be the 'good guys' in the market. All exclusives should be timed exclusives. Maybe 6+ months on the consoles, then 6+ on PC gamepass, and then maybe after 18 months or so allow the games to hit Switch and Playstation. This is publisher/developer friendly and the games make a ton of $$ and actually make people want to get the game's future sequel without waiting.

I feel like when it comes to this discussion we get too narrow minded in games. We forget that Zenimax media was a huge developer for VR and streaming technology. 7.5 billion would be considered a business venture for MS just to increase the productivity of Azure streaming and to boost there VR division, which has been lagging behind other major tech companies.

Damn, didn't see that coming. Hopefully they dont pull anything like the raising in price again now that they made the money. Hey Microsoft, think you can make 1 year Gold a bit cheaper? Also, please bring back some exclusives to be backwards compatible like Brute Force, Otogi and Crimson Skies. I don't new exclusives, more IPs, but those games also deserve to be BC, please.

Everyone keeps saying buy valve but with Gabe owning it I think it makes sense for them to buy epic. They have azure, they have dx12 ultimate, adding epic and its Uber popular game engines (that 90% of MS devs use mind you) just makes sense, plus they have a pretty successful windows gaming store, which MS wants so so so badly. Plus fortnite, them selling is probably a no because they have a endless cash cow so it’s not like they NEED money. I’m sure they want to be up there with AMD and MS and all the big PC boys, obviously it’s up to them to sell but I feel like this is one of those companies that are like, what else do you really need after this?

The question isn't who will Microsoft buy but rather who will accept their offer. MS has in the past tried to buy Nintendo, Sega, EA, Square-Enix and Activision so I don't know of there's many other major studios left

I bet WB Studios. AT&T has been DESPERATELY trying to cut fat to pay up the Warner buyout and they indeed almost sold out their game division, to MS as it was rumored.
