The DMCA law was enacted to protect work from being stolen from creators, but more than ever, it's being abused by individuals with grudges or game companies who want to silence genuine reporting.

All Journalist should just put a NO News ban on certain companies such as Activision.. see how they like it when no one is covering or promoting their upcoming projects

It seems to me that copyright law, and the manner in which it is implemented online, is broken. The law should benefit everyone, not be a manipulative tool.

Title should say Activision Blizzard because they're the same company! Shouldn't let them save face with the other half of their PR when they literally have the same board of directors!

Just to clarify something, Jim Sterling goes by they/them pronouns now. It's okay that you got it wrong this time, they pronouns can be hard to remember, I just hope you know in future if you bring up Jim again.

Wow.. you're making me take Activision side?
"They didn't do the actual stealing"… what a dumb arguement to make tbh. The people that share stolen information are profiting from it. So why you getting mad they're trying to put a stop to it? Theft is theft, in my opinion..
Dude said he didn't know it was stolen?,.. lol he said in his article, "he's the link to the leak" if your calling it a leak.., then I'm pretty sure you know it's stolen…
I hate leaks… 90% of the time it's clickbate, and 10% of the time (when it's true) it ruins the experience for me…

I mean, Activision is known to use copyright claims to try to hide glitches. I'm sure there have been other leaks they've done this about, I'm not sure though

Is it me, or these companies are becoming more and more Chinese?

It needs to be the case that falsely using the DMCA in this matter opens up personal liability. The lawyer(s) and executives that ordered them need to be personally taken to court by those they've illegally impaired their ability to conduct their business (report gaming news in this case). No more "limited liability" in these situations. It needs to result in millions of dollars of loss for shareholders, and the loss of substantial amount of personal wealth for the personally guilty parties.

I don't understand how corporations can claim copyright against journalists who are protected by the first amendment. And idiot SJWs try to argue that journalistic integrity only matters in political news, not entertainment news.

It's fun to get a felony sentence for abusing the DMCA.
It's fun to get a perjury sentence for abusing the DMCA.
Activision must learn that they cannot do that
because there are laws against this. sings to the tune of YMCA

The fact that Yong made this video covering this topic let alone news, is signs that we are on a very very slippery slope.

To be fair, the DMCA also introduces has a process for platforms to have a copyright system without going through the legal channels and the platform is free of liability as long as they play along.
It should be noted that the one who had their thing taken down can send a DMCA counter notice, which the platform must restore you content.
At this point the only way to take it down again is through legal action.

This process is mostly a good idea, but of course in its current form is highly abusable, because there is currently no penalty for sending a large number of false takedowns (obvious fair use or the send not even being the copyright holder in the first place). We should add that so the author of the content removed doesn't necessarily have to go to court themselves to make sure the false takedowns troll is punished.
