Don't forget that pokemon red/blue/yellow have pegi 12 rating because of virtual slot machine. These games are for game boy color, so no way to pay irl money, just ingame currency.

politics say games make people dangerous. now we have to do a study that gambling makes people dangerous. so that the games them self don't make people dangerous but the lootboxes in the games that are gambling mecanics and that makes people dangerous.

Fat excutives laughing their greedy asses off and getting 7/8/9 figure bonuses while encouraging some of the most vulnerable members of society, children, to gamble. It is truly disgusting! The sooner this predatory, willfully negligent practice is out of gaming the better!

Honestly, it would take organized outcry to force cynical politicians to ignore donor money to actually represent people who care about this issue! Great video, it seems all sorts of people are outraged by the general direction of the games industry at large, but are helpless to stop this bs…

casinos are more regulated than loot boxes
sports gambling is more regulated than loot boxes
gacha games actually tell you the chances based on how rare the character is

The idea of adding an average amount to get the item well on the surface seems good, however in practice this is not going to be a good regulation unless it is tightly defined. Unless you require this to be displayed in game and in the menu preceeding the purchase screen no one will ever see it. You know that if this law actually came to be EA and the others would just publish it somewhere on their website buried as far as possible and formated it in such a way as to be a real pain in the ass to read.

Though its still outrageous in most instances, EA could learn alot from Gatcha games if they want to keep doing this. Most Gatcha games clearly list the odds of pulling something, but most also have what is called a Pity system. Basically every X amount of pulls, you are guaranteed the featured unit. (E.G. Every 10 pulls gets a guaranteed 4-Star, and every 90 guarantees the featured unit). That way, you have a clear understanding of how much it’ll cost at a maximum, as well as your chances. Its still gambling, but more informed.

Whales are also the problem because they support loot boxes but they do not represent the majority of the player base. And this statement applies to any game not just FIFA.

Listen if someone doesn't have the will power to buy bullshit lootboxes in a video game. Then fuck em.

The line has to drawn somewhere. At some point people have to grow the fuck up

I am sincerely disgusted at how little has been done against the loot box cancer plaguing the video game industry. They've destroyed the creative process behind games reducing game creation from art to simply business. They're including this shit in everything nowadays. The mobile market is a mess of colossal propositions. Ads are going stale with the highest bidder winning even though the add is borderline harmful to the viewer… This needs to end. Loot boxes need to be outright banned. And severe restrictions put on monetization and ads on the internet. If you're asking 60€ for your game, you don't get to ask 20€ more for us to actually be able to finish the fkn game. It needs to be a complete product, or else make it free and then charge for content… Let's see how many people would play that sht… I'm looking at you EA and Blizz Activision.

I think, in relation to ignoring the evidence (and the obvious) that lootboxes are essentially gambling, what you are looking for is not 'willful ignorance' but 'gaslighting'.

Loot boxes are already deepest rooted into the gaming world. Since the cost of making games have gone up. Big name companies will use loot boxes to collect more funds from us.

Sadly, people of any age will buy them. The mobile market is making a killing. It's all about making that money.

The ESRB and companies like EA and Ubisoft are scumbags. The only way loot boxes will be properly regulated is if the governments of the world finally act. Right now letting the ESRB "regulate" is akin to letting a dingo babysit your children.

I'm 16, even being aware that loot boxes are gambling for a few years it has not been able to stop me from wanting to take part. It's a bit of a vicious thing. There's always that part of me looking at something in a game that I want to have and knowing that I'd have to drop $100 to get it, and the worst thing about it is I actually consider it.

5% generating HALF the Income.
HALF Yong!
Let that Tidbit Really Sink in and Marinate for a few minutes.
Just That One Data point only.
HALF the $ from 5% of the player base.
That seems OFF. Somehow I doubt that Few People even RICH would behave to spend More than Money to generate that. They'd have to spend a Considerable Amount of TIME to spend as well.
Something Else is Propping up that number. Hedge fund maybe?

Parents, even the non-gaming ones, really need to do their research. Know what monetization games have, know what your kids are playing in your own house. Because parents only have themselves to blame if their kids are causing them problems with these aggressive monetizing methods.
