It's basically a what if story, and cultured fans know that those are non-cannon .

Alternate universe comics are basically just official fan fiction.

And it never has been a good argument.

The real crime is that the thumbnail for this video will not be highlighted in Rewind 2021.

Creativity requires constraints. Without it, you get lazy writing and incoherent , non-creative storytelling!

Gotta disagree with you this once (it was bound to happen eventually). Strictly talking books, What If…? and Elseworlds titles have been a thing for as long as I’ve been reading comics (born in 1982). Not to mention pre-crisis Earth-2, et al. Frank Miller’s Batverse. So on and so forth. Plus there have been radical “reinterpretations” (ie, ignoring of source material) within the same universe: look at what they did to Carol Danvers in 616 post 2013. Or what they did to The Question when DC Comics acquired those characters. The Question was originally created by Ditko to represent his Ayn Rand loving, Objectivist worldview. They took the rightest rightwing character in comics and made him into a spiritual leftie with a vaguely Eastern philosophy. Alan Moore made Rorschach a better The Question than The Question.

I like multi-verse stuff but only if it's got a neat gimmick that really differentiate it from the mainline AND it's well written.
But yeah no, if you ignore the comics you get garbage like Ironman 3 that just takes a huge dump on like 3 of the bigger Ironman villains and the Extremis arc! I hate it way more than 2 because the gold armor was stupid and most of the movie he was just regular man sneaking around outside his suit! Don't even get me started on him blowing up the armory for fireworks!

This is why most of the movies based on books fail- they completly ignore the source materials for the main characters motivations and world building.

If peter Jackson had made changes to tolkein canon, nerds would have lost their mind and people would be okay with it.

I'm still salty that we didnt get to see thanos simp for lady death.

As a comic fan, I don't expect the movie version to be exactly like the comic version, but I do expect the movie to respect the source material and at least try to get the story as close to the original as possible. Unfortunately, far to often the movie treats the source material with utter contempt, and the film makers are surprised when the comic fans respond in kind.

The multiverse concept is a time honored sci fi tradition. So sorry if you "don't like it"

Hey Eric , have you ever done a talk with RJ from Fourth Age? Forgive me if you already have. I'm pretty new to the channel but I'd love to hear you two talk politics and culture from the lense of comics.

Multi Universe and Time travel (if not part of the orginal plot) is just lazy story writing.

Saying that would mean that there is definitely a white or other race Black Panther and in that universe the Blacks or other race are ruling the world and the whites or other race are the opress group

Multiverses kill my interest in the story. And I believe it does the same for newcomers as well.

It complicates the continuity and makes it hard to follow. How are you going to attract new readers when there is 20 different versions of the same character? Where do you start? Will they continue the story with your favorite version of the character?

The crap is annoying and disappointing.

I think "what if" is the best and possibly only good example of it being done correctly in comics

I think it's lazy that thanos is a copy and paste job of darkseid.i could do this all day you say superman I say senrty etc etc. This is nothing new dc and marvel have been doing this for decades.i say gobots you say transformers.i think if we're honest we all make concessions to things we like it's called bias.there is nothing new under the sun.

"Universe-fluidity" will be their next idea – Marvel Gay Universe (MGU) characters can enter the so-called "Straight" universe, but not vice versa

Eric, your problem is that you are approacing this from a reasonable, rational and logical perspective. The people pushing this kind of thing care not about logic or reason because they are IDEOLOGY BASED. When you are a logic based person, there is no reasoning with ideology based people or groups. This is how they bypass anything that makes universal sense. Anyway, I just subbed you. I am enjoying your channel and perspective. Thanks bud !

Trust me my friends, this whole "It’s a different universe" will go out the window, the moment someone turn a black character white.

If the "alternative universe" argument is valid, then someone needs to come along and do a live-action movie of the Bible. Jesus as an LGBTQ Kung-Fu master that single handedly destroys Roman Legions with his 'Jesus Style' Kung-Fu?

The sad thing is that they keep "rebooting" the main comic books so they can retcon shit, which is so freaking annoying bro.

I agree with continuity being good. I prefer that universe. But some What If and Elseworld stories were good.

I both agree and disagree. "Multiverses" can be interesting ways to explore possible different facets of a character whose current direction wouldn't really allow the story to touch on. However, this good usage of the concept still requires sufficient knowledge of the character in question and good storytelling skills. And even multiverses need to have a certain amount of "continuity points" shared across every iteration.

"This is set in a different universe"- translation: "We're not well-read enough to accurately portray the source material (even though that's literally our DAMN JOB!), so we'll just skim the wikis and do our own thing when we want"

If a movie isn't about the comic property. It is a new character. It's not that established character.

Ripper you just don't get it man. They physically can not see them as any more than their inalienable traits. So any experience or story they had doesn't matter, they are color+gender protagonist.
