WHO: Success will be measured by reducing virus’ capacity to kill
The head of emergencies at the World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday said success against the coronavirus was stopping its ability to kill and hospitalise people and devastate economies, rather than eliminating it.
Dr. Mike Ryan told reporters in Geneva: “If we look to eradication as the measure of success, I think we’re going to struggle.”
Dr. Bruce Aylward, a special adviser to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, cautioned that “if any country bets everything on the vaccine, we’re going to lose”.
