Part of the problem is Japan's inherent lack of vision and entrepreneurial ideas.

There is no reason an "indie" anime studio couldn't make original IP and release it online with their own subscription streaming service ala Roosterteeth. If the industry wasn't so bassackwards, a bunch of studios would band together, whip up a streaming service, and be online only.

Hire freelance translators to get every language possible for subtitles. Do hard copy production runs in batches (Discotek can do it with dead licences and as far as I can tell, their volumes aren't huge, so its clearly possible and profitable) with a true limited release for each series.

Manage and run all of this based out of Japan. It's so weird that the Japanese can't be bothered to do the remotest research into their global market, just hand off licences to other companies who do a shit job (like funimation) and watch the profits fly off into another corps hands.

They would make bank. It's not rocket science, there are plenty of animated online series on youtube made with flash that have been quite profitable for their creators, let alone if some real professionals got together. At the very least, they'd earn more than $38 damn dollars per day.

Considering that 50% of the anime and manga are carried on the backs of the animators and mangakas, you’d think the companies would be pay them for their work.

They put out amazing work with effort, that looks amazing, and deserve respect and pay for it. As a beginner artist, I can tell they take hours and hours to make the pages, pouring energy and time into each page to make it look good. I can barley imagine the stress, coupled with the low pay and tight schedules.

Meanwhile, Crunchyroll is wasting money on shit, and lying about paying the animators and translators, who literally live on that money, and in the comic industry, low quality trash gets rewarded.p, and the people who complain about social justice gets paid money that others deserve.

That’s honestly heartbreaking, and I truly hope that animators and artists other there, and the good ones over here, can get paid fairly and get the money they deserve. Because they honestly deserve it.

The anime studios also don't see the extra sales like figurines and BD sales, that is kept by the publisher that paid them shit so it trickles down to no one getting paid shit.

its just the industry there high wages get to the people who make better stuff and its not standardized so they really cant just revel on mediocrity and get away bragging that they are important because they work on that industry …

This is why I don't want to become animator in Japan because of this.

Here’s an idea. Get all these anime studios together & launch a streaming service themselves in Japan. Cut the middleman out & creators get raises after each successful anime is released. People making things like Attack on Titan & Demon Slayer should be super stars after that kind of success.

These things happen when you take a perfectly good Starblazers and try to push it off as Spacedinghy Yamatomato.

People: I feel sorry for animators

People: proceed to watch anime still…

Yeah, we got a problem and it isn't just the companies.

I see where this is coming from, but still don't manga and animators in japan get any royalties for their work that becomes completely popular as the west?

I'm just putting that out there.

Well, look at Kyoani. They pay fixed salaries, not frame-rates, and give their teams all the time they need to make the best projects they can, and just look at the gems we keep getting from them.

CrunchyRoll: Please don’t pirate (Insert anime series here) because the cash from your subscription goes to the creators who made the anime!
Also CrunchyRoll: We used the cash from your subscription to fund CR Originals like EX-ARM and High Guardian Spice because we don’t care about the creators you want to support.
