Nothing keeps me from watching a movie like it not having a theatrical release in favor of a streaming service

Once my theater opens back up, I've already made it my goal to catch every theatrical release of movies of interest. No more taking that for granted, that's for sure

Maybe its spite for Pixar being Disney’s rival?

One hand I feel bad that you all this work and the studio puts it on a streaming service for it to be free a few weeks later…

However I'm not spending $30 on top of a subscription fee just to watch a movie. That's ridiculous in price especially since it will be free (with subscription price) a few weeks later…

Disney: "Your award winning, box office breaking, money making films are worthless compared to our box office bombing, low review scoring, politically driven woke films."
Pixar: "………."

I'd be demoralized too if the movie I worked on for who knows how many years and spent hundreds of millions into the movie only to have it thrown out there for free.

Welcome to the club, Pixar. Disney have been taking customers for granted for an extremely long time.

Well I feel bad for the studio, yeah, best thing I'd recommend is maybe trying to become independent and make you own animation.

While I feel bad for the animators there, I have little sympathy overall for Pixar. They've been producing meh stuff for a few years now and have been past their prime. Plus Disney screwed over John Lasseter who is a genius(a term I don't use lightly). I hope Skydance really kicks their butt because Disney needs to be reminded how they once started: animation. And how Skydance can best embody the Disney spirit of getting passionate, talented animators and creatives to give us good stories that hopefully aren't partisan. Rather than the schlock of reboots, remakes and sequels Disney has given us.

My university was linked to both Sony and Pixar, before the latter did movies.

Didn't know who they were but years later my brother had some DVDs and showed me a short film. I days I'd seen it years earlier and he told me it was but possible. So I told him how it ended.

I then went on to describe several other animated shorts I had seen and described all the others on his other DVDs.

Turned out to be Pixar and when he asked me how Is seen them I said ..

"Was shown them during my software engineering degree during the 3D Graphics modules.

They was also sponsored by Playstation.

It's absolutely staggering what Disney have done to these companies and considering how much they have laid out for Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars and Fox and how much they were losing on lockdowns, they certainly behave like they don't care about making money.

It's truly staggering and the moment they bought them I knew it would all end in tears.

Didn't expect this with each and every purchase they made.

/raises hand… and what exactly are the Pixar folks expecting? Theatrical Release is dead right now. By force of law still in large parts of the world market. And even where it’s allowed their fellow travelers in the news media have terrified the public away from public spaces in order to drive up their own ratings and gain some profits via disaster and panic Porn. Disney’s only path to market at present is via streaming services. But they have learned that the public’s appetite for upcharge premium streaming content is very very limited. It is limited almost exclusively to certain core movie types of content. Marvel Movies and Disney Princess movies fit this bill. The paying public knows what to expect for their upcharge. Whereas “quirky heartwarming animated movie about a dead jazz musician” is gonna probably not make the cut for a streaming upcharge in the public’s mind. Not even with the Pixar branding. Love or hate the idea of Raya and the last Dragon, it’s still the next “Disney Princess Movie”. And Disney has clear understandable marketing reasons for feeding the public concept of the Marvel and Princess movies as Premium Content. It makes them more merchandise able. The only Pixar movies to do well with merchandise are the Cars movies. (Toy Story does okay. As does finding Nemo. It’s a decent merchandise earner but not in Cars, Princesses or Marvel’s class). Pixar movies are top tier draws to get people to subscribe to the Disney+ service. But there isn’t enough backend potential to make Disney want to risk the upcharge with them.

I would rather stream movies than watch it in theaters since I don’t have to wait to go to the bathroom until the movie is over, I don’t have to deal with jerks who like to cause a disturbance, and I can have any kind of food I want for free.

So Pixar can get its own section in Hollywood Studios. But can’t even get a surcharge on one of its own movies on Disney+.. While Raya and the Last Dragon, with no track record at all. Gets put in theaters and also an upcharge on Disney+. If I was Pixar. I would be mad too..

Knoen… As one that survived the Corporate Apocalypse that was Detroit in the early 00's, your words are too far off. However, there is something else to account, a trade paper reporting something that would be deemed 'inappropriate' during a company's high tide. No… at this point, everyone is pulling out the knives in order to stave off getting the pink slip… or to ensure everyone else gets them to.

We've seen Lucasfilm's woke whiteboard, can you imagine what the one at Pixar must be like? Because you know they have to go down the same checklists to make sure they're ticking off all the diversity boxes. No wonder they canned John Lasseter, he probably tried to put his foot down and they weren't having it. I feel bad for the animators and staff, especially the people who've been there for years, although it seems like they're starting to drift over to Lasseter's new studio, so good for them.

Amusing how just being critical (of particular people/companies) can get you labeled as "alt-right" these days, if not worse. That's all it takes. Absolutely loathsome mindset, honestly.
