Leia got DEMOTED to general in TPM. and it was hailed as a victory. which in retrospect was a glaring NEON warning sign. That and Simon Pegg being allowed to publicly trash PT era fans, saying that he had no respect for us as PEOPLE. the writing was on the wall day one

The plan was to assault western culture. He pulled it off successfully enough. Can we please stop pretending this is because of ineptitude?

I saw JJ destroy Trek in his reboot, throwing out 50 years of legacy out of the window, without a care in the world. Then he turned to SW, could he mess that up, hell yes, The Farce Awakens was a calamity. Then throw in Ryan into cocktail, then the Rinse of Skywalker arrived, which made The Lost Jedi as a contender as the best film for the Oscars? Disney made Tron Legacy which was mind blowing and it is a scandal as to why no sequel to that masterpiece has not been made. If you want to follow SW, the future is fan films……..

This is all just JJ covering his ass. And yet they'll still put him in charge of DCEU…

Neither JJ, KK, nor Rian Johnson had any plan at all. George had ideas but Disney wanted to do it themselves. At the time though, George as director of anything didn't exaclty look good to the fans. At the time there were haters of the prequels and the Indiana Jones 4 movie. That's why George sold it to them in the first place. But then Disney didn't know what Star Wars was about or why fans liked it so they made essentially a remake of the originalk trilogy. If they had payed attention to the expanded universe, they woiuld have seen how it could work.

You know it's bad when some manga artists and writers don't have a plan but have better products with less recognizable franchises

While I despise TLJ, and especially how Rian handled the criticism it rightly received from fans, I do think he is a good and very talented director. He just was given too much freedom to do whatever he wanted, regardless of what had already been set up before his arrival on set and what was coming after he left. He had absolutely zero creative push back on or accountability for anything.

So, I wouldn't be too averse to him doing an episode of The Mandalorian, provided he was kept in line by Favreau and Filoni—i.e., they write and produce the episode and all Rian does is bring it to life on screen. Again, he is a very talented director and shines when he keeps to what he knows and does best. He just should not have been given so much responsibility and free reign with his one, middle installment of what was supposed to be a sequel trilogy. That, and not necessarily Rian himself, was the problem. And as Kneon and Geeky Sparkles point out, all of that falls at the feet of the woefully inept Kathleen Kennedy.

Disney declared the Expanded Universe Not Canon, well then, they can declare the same for the sequel trilogy.

my opinion this crap has been going on for a long time know ST has been over with for a year and a half
IT time to end this and stop talking about it.
Everyone knows that the whole ST is a mess. Between Igor, Kennedy, johnson and JJ they all screwed it up
But it's time to end the ST debate

If you want a coherent story, you need a plan, or it will just be a regurgitated mess.

You mean the guy that jerked off people with mystery box after mystery box on lost and petered out like a bad fart and taking Star Trek and rammed the Enterprise into an iceberg (yes he sucked so bad he managed to sink a spaceship with an iceberg) you really surprised
