This is one of those times where I don't know if I should be concerned about the hack, or applaud them for releasing this info.

These people are ridiculous. They complain that streamers are making money yet they watch the content. Ergo, people are going to make money.

Wait criticalrole do twitch?! Well that was unexpected lol. To be honest, I usually watch the dungeondude, XP3, and Unexpected. I couldn't get into criticalrole, dunno why, but never got the vibe of it. I guess there some contract that they earn cash, but they have to paid to make an animated show or something the contract to make things complicated. Anyway I guess this is shocking for everyone, but again, not much a twitch person or criticalrole person.

Idk how I feel about looking at hacked data. Twitch needs to keep their data more secure. But there’s a consensus that CR has ruined DandD.

My biggest surprise with this was learning that Twitch takes 50%. And I thought that Steam, Apple, Google Play, taking 30% was a bit much. 🤷‍♂️

I get one "free" Twitch subscription per month from Amazon Prime, and I assign it to Critical Role. I suspect that a lot of that $9 million come from other Amazon Prime subscriptions.

at least 90% of the people that get into DnD these days are Tumbler People and North-American Screeching Blue Hairs. So it's not surprising that Critical Role's viewers are mostly of that mindset. I'm sure if you were to call Orcs Evil the chat would turn against you and you'd be perma-banned for "Racism". The only thing more Toxic then a progressive Chat is a equally Progressive Streamer and there are a lot of them… Like A LOT . Twitch Streamers either go above and beyond, often in the most awkward ways possible, to never show even an ounce of a political/Moral bias on anything that can be traced back to them or they are as Far-Left as one could possibly go. Everyone else has either been banned off the site or left.

It can be fun to troll the Streamers though. Once you get the streamers to respond it is so easy to watch them lose their minds. It's getting to that point that is the challenge. Normally their moderators don't let you.

I am actually excited about the "Vox Machina" series because the campaign was EPIC! I don't know if I'm emotionally ready to relive the heartbreaking bits though. 😭 I can tell you one thing, Critical Role merch has made a MINT for that crew.

It’s so weird when I see things like this while there are ads on YouTube that say “make your passion/hobby a side hustle or career.”

There’s a business side to everything other than fan fiction and similar things.

Critical Role is pretty good. I am eagerly awaiting the animated show, any year now. Campaign 2 wasn't for me but Campaign 1 was awesome. I will check out campaign 3 though.

I think it won't be just critical role, but D&D that they go after. A lot of people play the game for escapism, and the likes of Twitter, etc, hate escapism.

Twitch, Discord, Twitter etc. Have all changed do much from what they started as. It makes me think of the old school bands that when they started it was all about the music, then they got famous and it became all about the money.

Some of my friends are big fans … they turned into SJWs and I had to cut them off.
Ever since then I’ve stayed clear of anything to do with CR. I’m actually surprised the screeching isn’t harder especially since most of those friends where starving freelance artists.

Twitter users calling rich people grifters are usually poor, lazy people who have mental health problems and can't cope with society. If you ever check the backgrounds of these people complaining, most of them live in poor disparity. It's nothing but sheer jealousy and inadequacy of people looking outside in.

Any one surprised and made that Critical role makes money I find funny. Watching the show you have to think how were they paying their production team, paying for the studio, buying their equipment, and buying all their mini and dnd gear. Yea any one that takes to seconds to think about should realize they are making money else their wouldn't be a critical role show to watch.

What? A quality channel run by professional voice actors are actually making good money? If you look at the quality of their production and couldn't figure out that they're putting in a lot of time and money, and therefore making good money in return, then something is wrong with your judgement.

Making money for making content that is fine I get that but what pisses me off is streamers that do act broke begging for money like tax the rich while I show off my 1/2 million dollar house, stuff like that.

Ever since the progressive "social justice" mindset started to permeate through society, any groups or individuals that make a lot of money have become targets. The whole American dream of becoming successful and rich is ok to strive for… but if you actually obtain it, suddenly you're the enemy.

I have nothing but hatred for Critical Role and what they've done to D&D as a whole. They brought in people who would otherwise never play and those new players have warped the game entirely into something they want.

I bet a majority of the backlash comes from how the their "community" has strong armed their image as the ultimate SJW haven with really bad takes that's forced them to make poor decisions to appease the twittards/tumbletards.

Personally, the biggest slap in the face I can see is the fact they pulled in that much during the pandemic, but left their audiences out to try by not producing content/conducting any business unlike their DnD peers and "stooping" to their level of webcam home run games. In fact you could extend that branch to say they've completely turned DnD into a business rather than a "fun game with friends".

Never seen em, don't really care to. I've heard too much about the fandom, and 5th ed. I'd rather play some 3.5, or pathfinder, or VtM or other Old World of Darkness.

Critical Role has it been it's own company since around the beginning of the 2nd campaign. They've even mentioned how while they're still just a group of friends, they've all taken business roles and are striving to make a good company out of it. Funny thing, not too long ago there was a live stream going on where Marisha had a fire alarm going off in the background (looks like they had forgotten to open the floo on their fireplace and you could see the smoke curling up from it). Apparently Travis sent her a text that was like 'As a friend, this his hilarious. As your CEO, you need to stop streaming and take care of this, now.'

WAIT… people are making money streaming??!! How dare they making money for entertaining?!
They should work for free, like everyone else. The Kid working as a McDonalds cashier?? Totally for free. The guy who work as a bricklayer?? Did you mean… freelayer?? Of course he work for free. Your doctor who treats your cancer?? He do it because he's just a good guy!
So streamers should work for free as well!

I mean, I don't care one way or the other, but it should have been obvious. Anyone who looks at their setup and production values could see they had a lot of money to do what they do. Their influence on DnD has certainly been a double edged sword. While the popularity of the game has gone up, the people who joined have been…. Less than great. The CR fandom is a cesspool for the most part, demanding woke changes to the game and pushing old players out of public games. New players expect every game to be CR and every DM to be Matt Mercer. It's created this false perception of what the game is like.

Almost all of them are also SAG members so Critical Role is probably just another job/role for some of them, since they are probably actually under some union contract.

ya there is no issues with CR making money….they are professional voice actors, they spend a lot of there time working on that show why shouldn't they get paid. If anything i'm happy to see them doing well off of something they like to do.

I've never played d&d but I know it's not the only game in town. In the book stores right next to the d&d is plenty of Gurps books. They seem to cover every single possible RPG game style and translated into their own game system.

"REEEEE! They are making MORE money than me!"
"REEEEE! They are making money doing the same thing I do, when I am NOT making money doing it!"
"REEEEE! They 'getting ahead' in life! People shouldn't be allowed to DO that!"

THIS is why Marxism, Socialism, Communism should have NEVER been allowed in our schools & colleges! Because Socialism is the philosophy of the Lazy, the Stupid & the Envious!

Everybody talks about streamers pays and I'm more interested how TF amazon developers allowed someone to get their hands on entire twitch's and vapor's repos. Is it true, that they've contained secret keys to AWS?

The Amazon deal was locked in AFTER the Kickstarter. Turns out that CR had shopped the show around before the decision to use Kickstarter was made and no one wanted to take a chance on it. So CR decided to use Kickstarter to attempt to make 1-2 episodes. Only after the Kickstarter made 11 million dollars did any of the big streaming companies offer to support the project.

I may have a ton of problems with Critical Role and how they have affected to tabletop landscape but for crying out loud they made a produce they work hard to make this thing big and fun to watch or listen to for some. They earned that and it doesn’t bother me that they are making a bunch of money
